Subject: A7 Chummy Progress
I thought it was about time to give you an update on my Chummy construction progress. My last reported activity was getting all the panels painted back in July and starting the reassembly process. I have been working feverishly, trying to get something done every night ( the good weather has helped recently). The dead line I set was to have the car ready for the VSCC Welsh Trial in October.
I am pleased to report excellent progress! The body assembly is now complete, I have gained more experience in upholstery than I ever wanted to, making all the interior trim panels and there is now just (!) the engine to build and a wiring loom to make.
I am currently hobbling round with a suspected broken toe after I recently had the misfortune to drop the flywheel on my foot ( while wearing only sandals). Luckily this was after I had it lightened but I have to admit that I think I actually instinctively stuck my foot under it to break its fall as saw it rolling of the side of my rather cluttered work bench!
Following a previous recommendation on these pages I have just started assembling my engine and have used Silicone sealant between my block and crankcase. After having tightened then block down, some of the sealant has extruded into the bores so I shall have a fun time this evening trying to pick it out with some long tweezers and a scalpel. Has anyone else had this problem? Did I put to much on?
Enclosed are some pictures taken over the last few weeks showing progress and the shiny paintwork. One or two people have already commented that the can't believe I am going to trial it!
No doubt Guy will post the pictures to the "Vintage Knowledge" website for anyone on the list who is curious
